SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) recently passed two bills to support some of the most vulnerable Illinoisans: seniors in assisted living facilities and individuals experiencing domestic violence.
House Bill 3428 establishes semiannual joint training sessions with nursing home providers and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to discuss quality of care, potential violations, and more.
“This bill will allow for more communication between IDPH and care providers, getting all parties on the same page,” said Haas. “This bill supports providers of senior care and protects our senior population by increasing the amount of training their providers receive.”
House Bill 2774 will guarantee a single, accessible phone number for domestic violence services across Illinois, thus ensuring consistent support for all survivors regardless of their location. The bill would codify that the Department of Human Services is the main provider of the domestic violence hotline and is able to select the best non-profit entity to administer this service across Illinois.
Haas concluded, “Domestic violence is a crisis across Illinois, especially in my district. This bill provides an easy and clear pathway to safety for victims and will have a substantial positive impact on my constituents. I appreciate the bipartisan support on this bill to protect Illinoisans.”
Both bills await further action in the Senate.
