KANKAKEE – On Monday, State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) recognized the reopening of the Kankakee River State Park Chippewa campground. The park was closed in 2015 after a pump broke in the well serving the campground and it officially reopened on Monday, August 28th.
“Many 79th District constituents were eager to hear when the Chippewa campground would reopen, and I’m delighted to see it open again before Labor Day weekend,” said Rep. Haas. “Kankakee River State Park is a treasure in Illinois, especially in the fall, so I’m glad to hear this popular campground will reopen to increase visitors to this phenomenal state park.”
The Chippewa campground is located on Illinois Route 102 and offers 98 campsites by reservation only. The campground is located next to a playground and bike trail. Kankakee River State Park envelops the Kankakee River for 11 miles and consists of approximately 4,000 acres. With camping, park activities include archery, biking, boating, cross country skiing, equestrian trails, fishing, hunting, hiking, and more.
