State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) is continuing to recognize small businesses in and around her district, each month visiting a local business and highlighting for achievements. This month, Representative Haas has recognized Sweet Street for 30 wonderful years of serving the 79th District. Rep. Haas presented owners Sharon Richardson and Julie Gindy with an official certificate of recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives to note their service to the community!
Founded in 1993 by the Shimkus Family, Sweet Street has evolved from a little candy store in a local strip mall into a 4,000 square foot custom designed building in 2007. The Shimkus’ decided to retire in 2021 and that is when the Richardson and Gindy families became part of the story. Located at 592 William R Latham Sr Dr. in Bourbonnais, Sweet Street serves the finest quality of chocolates and truffles, specialty popcorn, nostalgic candy, hand dipped chocolate strawberries and caramel apples, along with specialty gift baskets. Everyone feels like a “kid in a candy store” when they shop at Sweet Street!
“We feel strongly that we want to be a vital part of our wonderful Bourbonnais community and what better way than being involved with a business that so many people love and is such an important part of their childhoods,” said the Gindys.
Representative Haas encourages her constituents to check out Sweet Street, especially for some great treats for the holiday season!
“We are so lucky to have the best composition of businesses here in my legislative district, but hearing the history behind each business—especially like that of Sweet Street—makes it all the more special and it’s an honor to recognize them this month,” said Haas.
The Representative has recognized dozens of businesses throughout her tenure serving in the Illinois House, and isn’t stopping now. If you know of a business in the area that you believe should be recognized, reach out to Rep. Haas’ District Office at haas@ilhousegop.org!
