State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) is hosting an upcoming prescription drop-off event in partnership with the Kankakee County Health Department, the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group, the Life Education Center Pledge for Life Group, and State Senator Patrick Joyce (D- Essex). Representative Haas is participating in the event to help ensure that unused, unwanted, or expired prescriptions are properly disposed of. The event will be held on Saturday, October 29th, at the Northfield Square Mall (east parking area) from 10:00am—2:00pm.
Representative Haas has participated in this event annually and encourages her constituents to clean out their medicine cabinets and drop off any of the following items to be properly disposed of: prescription medications, prescription ointments and patches, vitamins, and pet medicines. Restricted items include needles and illegal drugs.
“This is a necessary resource for our community to make sure we continue to dispose of some of the everyday medications we have in our households the right way,” said Rep. Haas. “We have our local police and health departments to thank for their partnership on this event—they are relentless at working hard to keep us, our communities, and our families safe!”
This event is part of the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a movement backed by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency to help prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting. In this upcoming drive, it’s an opportunity for the local community in Kankakee to do their part to remove unneeded medications and remove them from potential harm, while the DEA is working to do its part to reduce drug-related violence.
This is an outdoor drive-thru event—residents can look for the tent at the main entrance by Lens Crafters, on the east side of the mall. With questions about the upcoming event, contact Representative Haas’ district office at 815-523-7779.
