State Representative Jackie Haas, R-Kankakee, issued the following statement after the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced an indictment of former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan on federal racketeering charges:
“The indictment of Speaker Madigan reminds us how deep the roots of corruption run in our state government and how much work remains to be done in order to regain the public’s trust. Myself and my colleagues have worked extremely hard to make ethics reform a top priority in the General Assembly. More often than not, those efforts have gone ignored by the Democratic super majority. I hope this indictment is the wake-up call needed to propel the General Assembly towards making major strides towards ethics reform.”
Representative Haas serves the 79th District, including parts or all of Kankakee, Will, and Grundy Counties.
