REP. HAAS, LEADER DURKIN WAGER BURGERS AND CRAFT BEER ON 5A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

With the 14-0 Kankakee Kays Varsity Football team scheduled to face the 11-2 Fenwick Friars on Saturday at the Class 5A IHSA State Championship game, State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee), has made a friendly wager with Fenwick graduate and House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs), of craft beer and burgers from each legislator’s chosen local restaurant and brewery.

If the Kays come out on top this Saturday, Leader Durkin will deliver the famous Nick Burger from Nick’s Tavern and cold beer from Pollyanna Brewing Company, both in Lemont, to Rep. Haas. Should the Friars emerge as winners, Rep. Haas will buy Leader Durkin a Kanka-King Burger from Burgers and Beers and specialty craft beer from Brickstone Brewery.

“All of us in Kankakee are so proud of our Kays Football team and rooting for them big-time to capitalize this Saturday,” Rep. Haas said. “I can’t wait to celebrate a Kays victory and to show the State of Illinois just how great the Kankakee High School football program is. KAYUP!”

Leader Durkin chimed in with confidence saying, “These teams have worked incredibly hard this year and had historic seasons leading to a first State Championship game for both schools. While both are great teams, the Friars are hitting their stride – Representative Haas will be the one on the hook so I’d like to make sure she knows I like my burger easy on the onions. Go Friars!”

Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 10:00am kick-off at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb.
