State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) is hosting a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 1st from 11:00am—4:00pm at the Kankakee Public Library, 201 E. Merchant Street, 4th Floor.
Representative Haas’ Blood Drive will help supply local blood banks, who are in the midst of an ongoing blood shortage. According to the American Red Cross, blood supply typically dwindles in the summer time as donations decline—but this summer has been especially hard, which presents a great threat as traumas, transplants, and ER visits are on the rise as residents have returned to normal activities. They are now calling this an “immediate blood shortage” and making urgent requests for donations.
“Blood donation doesn’t take long but has lasting impacts,” said Rep. Haas. “Each time you donate blood it can help save a life; with the blood shortage we are fighting, I am doing my part to help by hosting this event and encourage anyone who is able to come out and donate blood.”
Appointments are required for this event, which you can do by visiting: redcrossblood.org and typing in your zip code or the keyword: Haas. With questions, contact Rep. Haas’ district office at 815-523-7779.
