Hear from Haas: July 2025

Fighting for you!

Hello everyone and happy July! I hope everyone has been staying cool and enjoyed their July 4th weekend!

Since session ended, I have been back at home in the 79th meeting with constituents, community organizations, local leaders, and more. My district office open house was a huge hit with dozens of residents stopping by to see our new office space.

My team and I have also been busy at work planning outreach events for the remainder of 2025. See more information below regarding our upcoming School Supply Drive.

Haas Joins Lawsuit Challenging Unconstitutional Practices of Illinois Democrats

I recently joined my Republican colleagues in the House and Senate in a lawsuit filed to enforce the Illinois Constitution’s Third Reading Rule on Senate Bill 328. Illinois Democrats disregarded the Third Reading Rule, which is outlined in the Illinois Constitution as a mechanism to ensure public transparency on legislation.

The unending rule-breaking by Illinois Democrats must stop. We are fighting to restore transparency and accountability to the people we were elected to serve. When Constitutional rules are broken, it’s the people of Illinois who suffer the most.

The Third Reading Rule is the final stage of debate that bills are supposed to follow as outlined in the Illinois Constitution. The legislative process is designed for legislators to have adequate time to review and debate legislation. Bills are supposed to be read by title three times on three different days. However, Democrats have repeatedly subverted the Constitution in order to rush bills through without proper review.

Enough is enough. It’s time for us to take action and end this blatant disregard of the Illinois Constitution. The people of Illinois deserve better.

2025 Summer Reading Program

My fifth annual summer reading program has returned! Students from Kindergarten to 5th grade can participate by reading ten or more books before August 15th, 2025. Books over 150 pages count as two books. All students who complete their summer reading will receive an invitation to an ice cream party and certificate ceremony in late summer!

This program is a great way to encourage kids to remain active readers during the summer months, which is critical to ensuring a smooth transition back to school in the fall. I invite all interested students to participate and join our celebration for their achievements in late summer!

Once a student completes their reading, they can fill out their form and have their parents verify the information. Paper forms are available at my district office, located at 187 S Schuyler Avenue, Suite 110 in Kankakee. Online forms can be completed by clicking here!
