Rep. Haas Announces Oceans of Possibilities 2023 Summer Reading Club

KANKAKEE – This summer, State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) is bringing back her annual summer reading club. She invites 79th District eligible students to participate in her “Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Club” during their summer vacation.

“Books are a portal to the past and future, they connect us to new places, and they show us the world through the eyes of others using the magic of reading,” said Rep. Haas. “Whether you’re spending your summer at home, on vacation, with family, or at camp, books are a great way to spend time and learn more about the world around you. I encourage students to participate to open their minds and for a sweet and delicious ice cream party at the end of the summer!”

To be a Summer Reader, Kindergarten through 6th graders in the 79th District must read eight books during their summer vacation. Books over 150 pages may count for two books and books for local library programs are also acceptable. All participants who read eight books will be invited to an ice cream party with Rep. Haas at the end of the summer. Summer Readers will also receive a certificate of recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives for their commitment to reading over the summer.

After reading their books, students should have their parents visit RepHaas.com and click “Summer Reading Club.” There, they can list how many books they have read over the summer. Parents and students can also drop off or mail a paper form to Rep. Haas’ Kankakee district office (370 E Court St.) that will be available for download on RepHaas.com.

Informational brochures on state and local programs will also be available. Constituents with questions may call (815) 523-7779.
