Rep. Haas’ summer reading club encourages students to color their world with reading! Being a Summer Reader is a fun way to participate in the interesting and adventurous world of books. Here’s how:
1. Students in 1st – 5th grades are challenged to read 8 books over the course of the summer. Books with more than 200 pages count as 2 books.
2. Once a student has completed the reading, fill out the form, have a parent or guardian sign acknowledging the books were read, and return it to Rep. Haas’ District office by Monday, August 9.
3. Once Rep. Haas’ office collects all of the forms, students who successfully completed the readings will be invited to attend an ice cream party hosted by Rep. Haas before the school year starts up. Each reader will receive an official certificate from the Illinois House of Representatives recognizing his or her commitment to reading. Rep. Haas will also provide information for parents and guardians about saving for college.
Reading exercises our brains, develops our imaginations, broadens our horizons, and promotes lifelong learning. Have fun this summer and get busy reading!
