SPRINGFIELD – Following today’s annual State of the State and Budget Address, State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) released the following statement:
“Today, Governor Pritzker gave his annual State of the State and Budget Address. While I was hopeful this year’s address would focus on moving forward and balancing our budget, the Governor unveiled yet another budget that relies on sleight of hand tactics to make our budget appear balanced.
“The proposed FY27 budget includes $1 billion in new spending, along with $728 million in new taxes and fees to ‘balance’ the budget. Balancing a budget requires limiting spending to meet revenue projections, not raising revenue to meet spending. Every day, Illinoisans are forced to make hard decisions to balance their own budgets. It’s long past time for Illinois Democrats to learn the same.”
