State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) recently participated in the 2022 Emerging Legislative Leaders Program, sponsored by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation at the University of Virginia.
The annual program welcomes a select group of state legislators who have been nominated by the Speaker of the House, President of the Senate or Minority Leader from their state for their demonstrated leadership qualities: integrity, compassion, intelligence, vision, and common sense. This year, Representative Haas was joined by her colleague State Representative Amy Elik (R-Fosterburg) as just two of only fifty state legislators chosen from across the nation—nominated to attend by Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin.
“This program inspires men and women in our country to continue to work in public service, to examine what great leadership entails and to study what makes our democracy work,” said Haas. “Throughout the program we had fulfilling discussions led by a team of distinguished leaders and it left me ready to get back to work here in Illinois to address some of the significant challenges we have head on.”
This year’s program was led by distinguished Darden School of Business professors, including: Jared D. Harris, Ph.D. and Mary Margaret Frank, Ph.D., and Dr. Thomas Little, Curriculum Director of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation.
